Wasef Bakhtari (1943–2023) was one of Afghanistan’s most celebrated poets, intellectuals, and literary reformers. As a modernist, he revolutionized Persian poetry in Afghanistan by blending traditional themes with modern forms. He was not only a literary innovator but also a powerful voice for education, justice, and cultural identity.

Bakhtari served in many roles during his lifetime: teacher, editor, and cultural beacon. He endured life as both a political prisoner and an immigrant. His legacy lives on through his writings and in the mission of this foundation.
